The song says, “It never rains in California”, except when I’m there. Ha! We arrived on Wednesday, arrived in San Diego and it sprinkled after we got to Palm Springs. On the way we stopped off in the town of Temecula, had lunch and then went to an antique shop and then to Temecula Quilt shop. It was a beautiful, clean shop with a lot of quilt candy to drool over. The shop is very well done and I saw several of Sue Garmen’s quilts made up in the shop, which was very nice to see how she touched quilters across the country. I know that Sue inspired so many quilters.
After we left Temecula we took the scenic route, which was through the mountains to Palm Springs. It was a beautiful drive, but I was very glad once we got down to somewhat, flat land. Chuck and Brenda Winfield joined us later in the evening; therefore we could have a golf/quilting weekend.
Thursday the guys were going to go to the La Quinta CareerBuilder Challenge to watch Shawn Stefani play in the PGA tournament and then go play golf. They got to see Shawn but when they tried to play golf it was too wet and could not play.
Brenda and I drove to Ontario, which was around 1.5 hour away to see the Road 2 California quilt show, even though it rained it didn’t rain us out! It rained going and coming, but we saw a rainbow both ways and we had great shopping and saw some great quilts.
While we were at the Rd2Ca we made sure we stopped at Primitive Gatherings booth. We visited with Lisa and she told me that she would be at the shop on Friday and invited us to visit. That ended up being our game plan for Friday. It rained coming and going and we saw rainbows both ways and had a great time visiting and stitching with quilters at the shop. Best of all, thanks to Lisa Bongean, I got to fine-tune my stitch on my Primitive Gatherings, My Crazy Life. Thank you Lisa for taking time out of your busy schedule and welcoming us into your group, we sure had a great time and you have a wonderful shop in California! I got so excited to be there and with all the rain I completely forgot about taking photos.
Saturday, after breakfast, Chuck and Brenda left for Vegas and David and I went back to the tournament to watch Shawn play, he had a later tee time, so off we went. This was a “sunny” day and we were going to take advantage of it! I’m just saying, I felt like I walked my backside off (even though I did not!), we walked over 8 miles and that was one hilly course. It was easier to run down the hills than it was to walk; it was rough on this girl! All in all, we had a great time and best of all Shawn qualified to play for money on Sunday.
We thought about going back to the tournament on Sunday but it was suppose to rain again. They moved all the tee times to try to finish before the rains returned. We decided last minute to go back to the tournament and had another great time. Sunday, we only walked 7+ hilly miles. I was one tired girl once these two days were over!
I will have to say that our food while we have here isn’t what I thought it would be. It has been good, but not outstanding. Saturday after the tournament we decided to eat Mexican food, it was good, but not what we are accustomed to. Sunday we stopped off after the tournament and ate a great hamburger, but it didn’t last long. David and I both got extremely ill after that meal and it took us all day Monday to recover from that. Some vacation!
Tuesday was a sunny day and we took advantage of it. I heard on the news today that it hasn’t been this rainy here in 7 years. How did we get so lucky! Ha
More adventures tomorrow! I am truly blessed; I hope you are blessed by your daily threads. Love and hugs,
